Exploring the Positive Societal Impact of Business Schools with AACSB
Kicking off with a brief overview of where societal impact is embedded in the 2020 Standards, the presentation will then focus on exploring a variety of approaches taken by AACSB schools that have shown early successes in demonstrating the positive societal impact of their faculty, students, alumni, staff, and stakeholders in regards to the new 2020 standards. Lessons learned will also be addressed, including common challenges business schools face in defining and measuring societal impact or relating these key concepts to their core mission. Participants will be encouraged to ask questions during the Q&A portion of the session to ensure that ideas and frameworks are highlighted that can be adapted so that MAACBA business schools can best feature their unique strengths and assets.

MAACBA Innovation in Teaching Award
Moderated by:  Joyce E.A. Russell, PhD., MAACBA Member-At-Large. The Helen and William O'Toole Dean, Professor of Management, Villanova School of Business, Villanova University

Award Winner:
Bryan C. Price, Ph.D., Executive Director of the Buccino Leadership Institute at Seton Hall University

Course: LEAD 2050 Leading Others
Nature of Course: Weekly seminar course for 83 competitively-selected undergraduate students
Intended Audience: Undergraduate

Overview:  Our LEAD 2050 course represents the culmination of two years of leadership development for competitively-selected sophomore students in the Buccino Leadership Institute at Seton Hall University. The course is designed to follow three previous semesters of leadership development where students learn basic leadership fundamentals in both in-class and out-of-class settings. In accordance with our leadership development model of Be – Know – Do – Reflect – Repeat, and the Stillman School of Business’s mantra of “turning theory into practice,” students apply various leadership concepts they’ve learned in semester-long, interdisciplinary team (IDT) projects. The primary learning outcome for the course is for students to experientially develop their leadership skills on one of seven IDT projects that benefits Seton Hall University or the surrounding community. It is the only leadership development program in the world that incorporates student-led projects, professional leadership coaching, and multiple forms of feedback (faculty, peer, leadership coach, audio/visual, and assessment tools like the DISC) to assess leadership effectiveness in an undergraduate course.
